Where does the History Center most need assistance?
- Wickham House - Volunteers guide visitors through this unique neoclassical dwelling, designed by Alexander Parris for wealthy attorney, John Wickham. While acting as ambassadors to the History Center, Volunteers gain insight into early 19th century life.
- Valentine Gift Shop - While assisting Gift Shop visitors with selections and purchases from the books, porcelain, toys and other gift items, Volunteers provide a friendly face and much needed service to our patrons.
When can volunteers work at the History Center?
- Public volunteer positions ( Wickham House and Gift Shop) are available Tuesday - Saturday from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. and Sundays from 12:00 - 5:00 p.m. General hours for other volunteers are available Monday - Friday between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.
What are the benefits of volunteering at the History Center?
- Benefits include: free parking, 10% discounts in the Gift Shop and at Café Richmond , invitations to special events and educational programs and free access to the History Center Archives.

How do I apply for a volunteer position?
- Send a completed volunteer application (pdf) to the Education Assistant. Applications are accepted at any time.
