Henry L. Valentine Funded Internship

This year the History Center will be offering the Henry L. Valentine Funded Internship in the fall of 2008. Applicants may choose their area of interest. A minimum commitment of 150 hours is required, with a $500 honorarium upon completion of the internship. Applicants must submit a completed internship application (pdf), resume, cover letter (including your area of interest and possible start and end dates), official college transcripts and one letter of recommendation from a college professor to the Education Assistant at the Valentine Richmond History Center. Deadline is July 15th.

Where does the History Center need interns? 

 

  • Internships are available with the Archives/Photograph Collection, Development Department, Finance Department, General Collections, Historic Richmond Tours, Public Programs and Education Department, Public Relations and Marketing, and Registrar’s Office.

Are the internships paid?

  • General internships are non-paid, however, it may be possible to receive college credit depending on your school's requirements.

Are there funded internships?

  • The History Center offers funded summer internships and, on occasion, during other times of the year.  Applicants may choose their area of interest. A minimum commitment of 150 hours is required. Stipends or honorariums range from $500 to $750 and will be provided upon completion of the internship.   
 
  • To apply for a funded SUMMER internship: Send a completed internship application (pdf), a copy of your resume, cover letter (to include your area of interest and possible start and end dates), official college transcripts and one letter of recommendation from a college professor to the Education Assistant at the Valentine Richmond History Center.  Deadline is March 15th. 

When can interns work at the History Center?

  • Interns work during the business week, Monday through Friday, between the hours of 8:45 am and 4:30 pm.

   What are the benefits of interning at the History Center?

  • Benefits include: 10% discounts in the Gift Shop and Café Richmond and free admission  to the History Center Galleries during the internship period.

   How do I apply for a general internship?

  • Send a completed internship application (pdf) along with your resume and cover letter to the    Education Assistant.  Applications are accepted at any time.
