Richmond History Center Exhibits

Phase II
Phase II of the Second Century Campaign continues Phase I’s success through raising funds for:

  • Endowment Increased Funding for Programs and Operations
  • The Clay Street Renovation
  • Increased Annual Giving
  • A campaign Feasibility Study has been conducted by The Sheridan Group, a leading consulting firm for non-profit organizations.
  • Key Richmond leaders have joined the campaign.
  • A leading Richmond public relations, communications and marketing company, CRT/tanaka, has contributed a comprehensive evaluation and marketing plan for the History Center.
  • 100% of the Board and 100% of the Staff at the Center have made campaign commitments to help begin the effort.
The proposed capital improvements will improve visitor’s experience and contribute to the revitalization of downtown through:
  • Expansion and improvements to collections storage, opening collections to specific audiences, allowing better access for researchers and providing access for archivists.
  • Upgrades to existing climate control and security systems. n Providing for a new, comprehensive Richmond History Gallery and display.
  • Renovations of space for a new orientation center for the historic Wickham House.

Building the Valentine Richmond History Center's endowment will assure:

  • That operations are sustained and enhanced during its second century, providing a legacy of historical appreciation an d understanding for future generations.
  • That education programs continue to grow and diversify; that the History Center continues as a vital resource to the City, Region and the Commonwealth.

Phase II — Campaign Plan and Naming Opportunities

Nucleus Fund: $5 million January 2005 - June 2006
Launched in January 2005, the Nucleus Fund for the Second Century Campaign – Phase II successfully reached its raising $5,049,663 in cash and pledges for the endowment and special projects.

With one third of the gifts from first time donors, the campaign had 100% participation from the Board of Trustees and staff.

Leadership Gifts Campaign: $10 million July 2006 - June 2008
The Leadership Gifts Campaign will focus on continued support for the endowment and funds for capital projects. This campaign will gain support from a newly engaged and broadened base of constituencies who recognize the History Center’s importance to the community and its status as a key Richmond area educational and cultural resource.

The Many Ways of Giving The History Center is not based on the lives of heroes. It is instead about an intimate encounter with the lives of the people who built the region. The Second Century Campaign - Phase II is designed to include and to value all gifts to the Richmond History Center, including:

  • Gifts for capital renovation and expansion
  • Gifts for Annual Giving
  • Gifts for specific Operations and Programs
  • Endowment contributions for administrative, archival and history staff and for educational, outreach and tour programs.

The campaign accepts gifts of:

  • Real Estate
  • Stock in closely held businesses
  • Annuities
  • Trusts
  • Bequests
